PRESS RELEASE
Writer/director Simon Bross constructs a multi-layered psychological thriller, cleverly centered on themes of indulgence and denial and marked by uniformly strong performances. Devout nun Matilde believes that as a little girl she saved her father from choking by reciting the Lord’s Prayer, and now alternately starves and gorges herself as a way of beseeching God. One of Matilde’s first communion students, Linda, has a slight weight problem that in the eyes of her high-achieving (and anorexic) mother Elena is much more serious than it is. And Elena’s architect husband Gustavo, increasingly ignored by his abstemious wife, finds solace in the plump arms of a Peruvian woman who shares his twin appetites for food and sex. The characters’ parallel plot lines converge in a twist-ridden finale—over the top entertainment in the very best sense.
