We welcome all cinema lovers to the XVIII Latin American Film Festival, presented by the Ibero-American Cultural Attachés Association (AACI), the American Film Institute (AFI), and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), September 18 through October 7 at AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center.
For almost two decades, this festival has been promoting the artistic talent of Latin American Film Directors, providing an opportunity for audiences of the Greater Washington, DC area to explore contemporary filmmaking from Latin America, Spain and Portugal. Last year, the festival welcomed and audience of nearly 9,000—a record turnout—to see over 34 award-winning films from 20 countries.
For the three weeks of the festival this year, the public will again enjoy the best in current Latin American cinema with a selection of over 30 films, including US Premieres, award-winners, festival favorites, box-office hits and debut works by promising new talents. Opening Night celebrations will be hosted by the IDB Cultural Center, closing ceremonies will be hosted by AFI at the historic AFI Silver Theatre. This year a number of screenings will also be hosted by the Gala Theatre. The festival will also include many special guest appearances with film screenings, including a filmmaker discussion panel downtown at the IDB Conference Center.
