
Welcome XIX Latin-American Film Festival
Spain and Portugal

The Latin-American Film Festival Spain and Portugal came back this year in his nineteenth edition. The Festival is organized by the Ibero-American Cultural Attaches Association in Washington DC (IACAA) and the American Films Institute (AFI) with the collaboration of the Inter-American Develop med Bank (IDB).
Our mission is to showcase and nurture existing and emerging creative Ibero-American talent while serving as a springboard and catalyst for the promotion of Ibero-American films and filmmakers, bring awareness through film, the most influential audiovisual medium of our time, the richness and diversity of the Ibero-American culture and invest in our community and develop an audience for our works.
The festival will be held at the historic AFI Silver Theater in Silver Spring from September 17 through October 7, and the Gala Theater in Washington DC.
Opening night will be help September 16 at the Inter-American Development Bank Opening remarks and DC premiere of Sleep Dealer.
Last year, the Latin-American Film Festival Spain and Portugal welcomed and audience of nearly 10,000 to see over 35 award winning films from 20 countries. This year will presents feature films, documentaries and shorts, the festival will also include many special guest appearances with film screenings, including a filmmaker discussion panel at the IDB Conference Center. The films presented at the festival showcase a wide variety of themes by Latino filmmakers, producers, writers and actors, as well as movies that depict Latino culture. Opening night will be hosted by the IDB Cultural Center; closing ceremonies will be hosted by AFI at the historic AFI Silver Theater.
The festival is possible by the help of the valued partner between the IACAA and the AFI Team led by Murray Horwitz and Deputy Director Ray Barry, Stanton Lawyer Figueredo, and particularly film programmers Todd Hitchcock and Lori Donnelly, responsible for the extraordinary quality this year’s selection of movies.
